Job summary

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission is seeking a Regulatory Specialist to help ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations across projects and operations.

You will inspect facilities, coordinate with agencies, review plans for regulatory alignment, and assist in preparing risk assessments and monitoring reports to support ongoing compliance efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in natural sciences, engineering, environmental or related field.
• Four years of verifiable work experience in environmental permitting and regulations; environmental investigations; environmental or other regulatory compliance; or environmental project management; or utility regulatory analysis.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Research and track federal, state and local regulations relevant to the department.
• Advise management on regulations and recommended departmental actions; provide permits processing support.
• Review plans including planning, capital projects, property management and maintenance plans for compliance.
• Coordinate with regulators and agencies to acquire necessary authorizations for projects and maintenance.
• Prepare and review risk assessments, environmental monitoring and CEQA/NEPA reports; maintain regulatory files.
