Job summary

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) Wastewater Enterprise is seeking a Regulatory Specialist to help ensure legal compliance across its facilities and programs. You will monitor federal, state, and local regulations, prepare permits, coordinate with agencies, and support environmental investigations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or engineering and at least four years of regulatory experience, plus a California driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Four years of verifiable work experience in environmental permitting and regulations.
• Valid California driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Research and track all federal, state and local regulations that may affect the department.
• Advise management of pertinent and timely regulations and make recommendations on actions.
• Review plans including development plans and capital improvement project plans.
• Perform or oversee environmental sample collection and analysis.
• Assist in presenting to regulatory agencies and related public agencies.
• Develop and maintain permit processing and inspection practices for compliance.
• Develop relationships with diverse staff and maintain permit files.
• Drive city vehicles to wastewater facilities and sites as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
