Job Description

Our Reno, NV laboratory is looking for a Project Manager I to join their team! A Project Manager I is a key member of the Client Services Team, serving as a client advocate and laboratory liaison. The Project Manager I is expected to build strong working relationships with our clients and technical staff. This role is responsible for guiding the successful, on-time completion of clients' projects, from initial contact (e.g., request for quote, bottle kits) through laboratory analysis (e.g., analytical details, status updates) to final deliverables and invoicing. The Project Manager I will work within a team of Project Manager Assistants and other Project Managers. This role manages a portfolio of clients with lower complexities and/or lower annual analytical spend. The Project Manager I is expected to familiarize themselves with project complexities and develop a working knowledge of ongoing projects within their group to support the Client Services team. Additionally, they will be responsible for training and delegating tasks to Project Manager Assistants.

Job Functions
  • Serve as the main point of contact and client services representative for a dedicated list of clients with lower complexities and/or annual analytical spend.
  • Assist clients with all aspects of project setup, including initial quotes, supply orders, sample receipt, data reporting, and invoicing.
  • Build collaborative relationships with clients, laboratory operations, and sales teams to support long-term successful relationships. Staff and client meetings are critical for relaying information about ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Act as the liaison to ensure all project aspects are carried out in the best interest of both the client and laboratory to meet turnaround time (TAT) deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project accounts.
  • Monitor project status and provide regular updates to clients, lab operations, and sales teams through proactive communication.
  • Understand all relevant aspects of client projects, including rationale, regulations (e.g., NPDES, SW-846), and methods used by the client and laboratory.
  • Document and execute client requests such as bottle orders, sample tracking, LIMS login, change orders, etc.
  • Review project data and invoicing for accuracy before final report delivery.
  • Participate in offsite and virtual client meetings as coordinated with the sales team.
  • Promote a positive working atmosphere and represent SGS professionally inside and outside the laboratory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support SGS's mission of quality, service, and growth.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or equivalent industry experience, with 1-2 years relevant experience in sciences and/or customer service.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field, and 2-3 years as a Project Manager Assistant (preferred).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong self-initiative and resource management skills.
  • Advanced English language skills.
  • Strong mathematical and reasoning skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Solid critical thinking skills for systematic problem solving.
  • Ability to lift/carry/push or pull up to 25 lbs occasionally.
