ABOUT TROUT UNLIMITED
Trout Unlimited (TU) is dedicated to caring for and recovering rivers and streams. With 300,000 members and over 400 chapters nationwide, TU's team includes volunteers, staff, lawyers, policy experts, and scientists working from more than 25 offices across the country.
Join TU to enhance water quality, habitat, and native fisheries in New Mexico and Arizona affected by land use, climate change, and historic mining. The role involves managing habitat and stream restoration projects and developing abandoned mine land (AML) reclamation initiatives. Candidates will gain technical experience and lead projects from conceptual design to funding, implementation, and reporting. The position involves both fieldwork and office tasks across New Mexico and Arizona, supporting species like Rio Grande cutthroat, Gila trout, and Apache trout.
The role splits 60% supporting existing projects and 40% expanding the AML program. Candidates should have experience in fisheries, water resources, and contaminated site management. Collaboration with stakeholders such as USFS, BLM, FWS, and industry is essential. Internally, the role works with TU staff across departments to advance conservation efforts.
Funding is secured for two years, with opportunities to obtain additional funding. The preferred location is the greater Albuquerque area, with travel across New Mexico and Arizona, including occasional conferences. Up to 60% travel may be required during the field season (May to December).
Since 2004, TU's AML Reclamation Program has addressed issues in headwater streams, supported by industry partnerships and recent legislation. The position aims to foster these relationships and develop new projects in the Southwest.
TU offers a family-friendly, diverse, and inclusive environment. The position is full-time with benefits, including reimbursement for travel. Salary ranges from $65,000 to $70,000, with potential for growth based on experience and qualifications. The review of applications begins mid-June 2025, and the position remains open until filled.
