Job summary

SCDES seeks an environmental engineering professional to join the Bureau of Land & Waste Management. The role focuses on protecting public health and South Carolina waterways by conducting CERCLA investigations and overseeing cleanup actions, with responsibilities spanning reports, field supervision, and project management.

Requirements include a master’s in engineering and relevant experience; additional licensure or equivalency may be requested.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 1 year of environmental engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 2 years of engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Examine and evaluate plans, specs, and engineering reports for site investigation and cleanup.
• Provide technical assistance to consultants, officials, and industry reps.
• Provide onsite supervision of environmental response actions.
• Prepare reports on response actions for management.
• Assist in contracts and CERCLA activities and apply engineering knowledge to regulatory work.
• Perform project management duties for hazardous substance actions.
• Perform other duties as required.
