Job summary

SCDES seeks an experienced engineer to lead and support the State Voluntary Cleanup Program, applying engineering solutions to protect public health and South Carolina waterways. You will assist with site investigations, remediation planning, and public communications while coordinating with consultants and agencies.

The role requires advanced engineering credentials, strong analytical skills, and the ability to travel for fieldwork and site visits as needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in engineering is required.
• Bachelor’s in engineering with 1 year of environmental engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s in engineering with 2 years of engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Examine and evaluate plans, specs, engineering reports, etc. involving complex methods for site investigation and cleanup actions at uncontrolled sites.
• Provide technical assistance to consultants, state and local governmental officials, and industrial representatives.
• Provide onsite supervision of environmental response actions.
• Prepare reports on response actions for submission to management.
• Assist in preparing contracts and applications pursuant to CERCLA activities. Know and apply a combination of engineering technology and federal/state laws to CERCLA activities.
• Perform project management duties for hazardous substance response actions.
• Perform other duties as required.

Master’s degree in engineering
