Job summary

The City of Ventura is seeking an Environmental Services Assistant to join our Public Works team. This entry-level paraprofessional role blends administrative and clerical duties with routine technical and program support tasks to help run environmental programs.

You will support outreach, respond to questions from residents, and assist with permits, events, and grant reporting. This position offers growth in public works and environmental services within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Education, training or experience equivalent to two years of college coursework in business administration, environmental sciences, or a related field.
• Six months of experience in data collection or clerical record keeping.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers educational presentations on environmental programs for community groups, schools, and other audiences; prepares brochures and informational materials and helps distribute them.
• Responds to questions, suggestions, and concerns from residents and the public regarding environmental programs; coordinates with City staff to address issues.
• Represents the City at regional meetings and supports environmental programs by coordinating materials and services, maintaining program records, tracking grant-related expenses, and preparing routine grant reports.
• Supports environmental events and activities by coordinating permits, assisting with professional services agreements, and recruiting and scheduling volunteers.
• Provides support to environmental program staff through activities including photographing projects, staffing outreach booths, and assisting with print and other public outreach efforts.
