Carver County is seeking an Assistant Environmentalist to provide technical assistance and customer service at the Environmental Center. The role emphasizes solid waste and hazardous waste programs, with potential involvement in enforcement and plan implementation depending on qualifications.
Primary duties include assisting with Center operations, education programs, waste streams management, organics diversion, and household hazardous waste collection.
The Assistant Environmentalist position involves technical assistance in combination with assisting staff provide customer service at the Environmental Center. Depending on qualifications, candidates may also assist with the implementation and enforcement of the County Solid Waste Ordinance, County Solid Waste Management Plan, and other solid waste related programs. The main focus of the work will be in the solid waste and hazardous waste field.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
Candidates should be enrolled or have completed a post-secondary educational program and the ideal candidate should have education in one of the following: solid waste management, environmental science, or other related fields. The Assistant Environmentalist will need to be able to work on projects with little supervision and must be able to collaborate with County staff as well as other Counties or State organizations. The position will spend approximately 75% of their time at the Environmental Center.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and a vehicle available for use during work. A mileage reimbursement will be available.

The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, background investigation, and pre-placement physical.
