Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Unit Manager

The Unit Manager for the Corrective Action Unit is responsible for managing the operating functions and personnel matters of the unit within the Underground Storage Tank (UST) Section. The unit manages a variety of corrective action activities, including the state lead and pre-approval corrective action programs, confirmed release reporting, and report review for responsible party-led projects.

This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Job Summary

The Unit Manager manages staff and operations, including training, coaching, disciplinary actions, and budget management. Ensures compliance with program goals, regulations, and grant requirements. Supports performance measurement, process improvements, and acts as a technical resource for staff and stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of environmental rules, statutes, and remediation practices.
  • Ability to learn compliance and enforcement protocols.
  • Management and supervisory skills in government or private environmental sectors.
  • Strong technical knowledge in environmental corrective actions and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Management, Engineering, Geology, Biology, Hydrology, or related field.
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience managing staff.
  • 3-5 years of environmental experience in regulatory agencies, consulting, or private industry, with petroleum experience preferred.
