Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Environmental Planner in Boston, MA to lead NEPA projects and develop planning studies for transportation initiatives. You will manage teams, conduct analyses, and prepare NEPA documents for federal/state projects while coordinating with municipalities, DOTs and transit agencies.

The role requires strong regulatory knowledge, excellent communication, and the ability to guide junior staff. Occasional travel and a focus on QA/QC are expected within a growing NEPA practice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5–7 years in environmental planning, surveys, permitting, and impact assessments.
  • Strong analytical methods and regulatory knowledge.
  • Experience leading reports, NEPA docs, and licensing processes.
  • Coordinating with clients, agencies, and staff; QA/QC adherence.
  • Proficiency with NEPA processes and consulting practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to lead junior members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or manage NEPA projects (CE/EA/EIS) and prepare NEPA documents.
  • Develop planning studies and environmental reports for transportation projects.
  • Conduct corridor and subarea planning for multimodal projects.
  • Develop pre-NEPA and feasibility studies for environmental planning.
  • Lead data collection, research, documentation, and analyses.
  • Utilize GIS for data analysis and map generation relevant to studies.
  • Support public outreach and stakeholder involvement.
  • Assist with business development and client relationship management.
  • Draft scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFPs.
