Job summary

WSP is seeking a senior environmental project manager and technical lead for its New England Environmental Planning and Permitting team. You will manage environmental permitting and planning projects from pursuit through delivery, develop proposals, and advise clients navigating complex regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years’ experience in environmental planning and permitting, leads multidisciplinary teams, and demonstrates strong technical writing.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience managing environmental planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance projects.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing client relationships.
  • Strong understanding of federal/state environmental review requirements including NEPA and USACE permitting.
  • Experience supporting FHWA, state DOTs, transit, municipal, coastal, or infrastructure projects.
  • Existing relationships with transportation agencies and regulators in New England.
  • Exceptional technical writing for environmental documents and permit applications.
  • Proven success developing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and support business development.

Responsibilities

  • Lead NEPA and environmental permitting projects for transportation, infrastructure, resilience, energy, and public-sector clients.
  • Develop and manage project scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and client communications.
  • Develop permitting strategies involving USACE, FHWA, state DOTs, coastal management, and environmental agencies.
  • Prepare and oversee environmental reports, permit applications, and regulatory correspondence.
  • Lead proposal efforts, including capture planning, technical approach, scope and fee preparation, and client presentations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, teaming partners, and regulators.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with environmental planning and permitting services.
  • Mentor environmental planners and permitting specialists while growing the practice in New England.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding funds and resources per policy.
