Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP in Mechanicsburg, PA seeks an Intern to support the Environmental team. You will assist Senior Project Environmental Scientists and Engineers across environmental design and compliance tasks in the field.

Responsibilities include NEPA documents, socioeconomic analyses, wetlands, stream assessments, and permitting. Occasional travel may be required; must be pursuing a BS in Biology, Environmental Science or Environmental Planning; strong communication and MS

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a BS in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning or similar field.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and time effectively.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Willingness to take on new challenges and learn.
  • Willingness to work in challenging outdoor environments, including heat and uneven terrain.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Project Environmental Scientists and Engineers in environmental design and compliance tasks.
  • Prepare state and federal environmental documentation, including NEPA.
  • Perform socioeconomic analyses including environmental justice.
  • Conduct wetland delineations and Stream assessments.
  • Assist with Clean Water Act permitting ( Sections 404/401 ).
  • Assist in field investigations of terrestrial ecosystems (riverine, wetlands, uplands).
  • Occasional travel, including overnight, as needed.

Job description

We are currently seeking an Intern to work with the Environmental team in our Mechanicsburg, PA office. The primary duties will be to support Senior Project Environmental Scientists and Engineers in a variety of tasks in the field of environmental design and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • State and federal environmental documentation (including NEPA preparation)
  • Socioeconomic analysis (including environmental justice)
  • Wetland delineations
  • Environmental Compliance
  • Stream assessments
  • Threatened and endangered species habitat evaluations and surveys
  • Clean Water Act Section 404/401 permitting
  • Periodic travel (including overnight) may be required when assisting with field work, as needed
  • Assist in conducting environmental site investigations, assessments, and surveys to sample, evaluate and analyze terrestrial ecosystems including, but not limited to, riverine, wetland, and upland landscapes
Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning or similar field

Physical Requirements (Essential Functions)

This position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field as part of the essential job functions. Duties may include:

  • Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, stream banks, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces
  • Performing physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing
  • The work environment may include exposure to a range of environmental conditions, including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements.

The expected hourly compensation range for this position is $21.50 - $24.50. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
