Job summary

The Environmental Planner 2 position with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) leads environmental review efforts for transportation projects within the district. You will apply environmental laws, policies, and best practices to support safe and sustainable project development, collaborating with agencies and the public.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as an Environmental Planner 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Five years of progressive professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
• A Master's degree in planning or one of the environmental sciences and two years of progressive professional environmental planning experience; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preparation and review of categorical exclusions, technical reports, and mitigation plans for projects of varying complexity
• Evaluate effects of transportation projects on natural, cultural, recreational, and community resources
• Participate in meetings, hearings, and displays to support public involvement activities
• Work with resource agencies and the public to strengthen partnerships and support compliance
• Develop and deliver environmental training for district design, construction, and maintenance staff
