Job summary

New Castle County Laboratory seeks a qualified technician to perform comprehensive environmental tests on samples from treatment plants, sewers, and industrial discharges. The role requires strong knowledge of lab operations, equipment use, and safety procedures.

The candidate will train staff in analytical testing procedures, maintain logs and data reports, and uphold QA standards in a busy public laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Three years of laboratory experience related to environmental pollution control.
• Two years of college coursework in chemistry and related sciences.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and communicate effectively in writing.
• Must pass Class II County physical examination and background check.

Responsibilities

• Performs tests on water, wastewater, sludge, soils, and related samples.
• Operates atomic absorption spectrometer for heavy metals.
• Runs gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer for organic pollutants.
• Keeps logs, chain of custody records, and test data reports.
• Maintains laboratory facilities and trains staff in procedures.
