Position Overview
BME Strategies is seeking a solutions-oriented, analytical professional with deep expertise in local environmental public health, particularly within Massachusetts to support a state-wide local public health inspectional workflow solution. The ideal candidate is a strategic and systems-focused subject matter expert with a passion for environmental and public health. They are proactive, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator, capable of collaborating effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as an environmental health subject matter expert within the inspectional workflow solution project team.
Advise technical and programmatic teams on environmental health data needs, data flows, and environmental health priorities.
Ensure environmental health data (e.g., air and water quality, hazardous exposures, food safety, vector control, housing conditions) are accurately represented in system architecture and data models.
Collaborate with epidemiologists, informaticians, IT developers, and local public health partners to define user profiles, use cases, data standards, metadata, and reporting requirements.
Support migration, integration, and knowledge transfer of environmental data from multiple sources (e.g., local boards of health, EPA, CDC, labs, environmental sensors).
Participate in system design workshops, workflow mapping sessions, and user testing to ensure environmental health perspectives are embedded in system functionality.
Provide input on data governance, data-sharing agreements, and system interoperability related to environmental health domains.
Assist in training, documentation, and implementation planning to ensure successful system adoption across environmental health programs.
Represent client and firm in stakeholder engagement with state government and external agencies, local health departments, community organizations, and vendors regarding environmental health data modernization.
Assist in the implementation of new technologies, digital inspection platforms, and process improvements to enhance adoption, system efficacy, and reporting.
Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and recommendations for leadership, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
Working Conditions
Remote work, with occasional travel to client sites, conferences, or meetings as required.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Requirements
Master’s degree in public health and/or Registered Sanitarian (RS) certification preferred but not required.
Minimum of 10–15 years of experience, including at least 8 years in local environmental public health.
Experience In Urban Environmental Health Is Preferred.
Strong background in public health, environmental health inspections, and compliance with environmental codes.
Proficiency in electronic documentation and digital inspection platforms, with preferred experience transitioning from paper-based to digital systems.
Ability to assess, improve, and implement digital inspection platforms.
Experience in mentorship or training is preferred but not required.
Skilled in managing difficult conversations and situations with professionalism and tact.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience in a consulting environment and a strong understanding of public and environmental health initiatives are highly preferred.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Expected range is $100k-140k annually
