Job Title: Employee, Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) Coordinator – Painesville, OH

Styropek is the largest EPS (Expandable Polystyrene) producer in America. Our certified products are utilized across many applications, including building, packaging, and automotive. We have 5 manufacturing plants in 5 countries and belong to the Alpek family. Alpek is the largest petrochemical group in America.

We are currently seeking an EHSS Coordinator for our facility in Painesville, OH.

Styropek’s Painesville plant is located about 30 miles northeast of Cleveland, OH. The site manufactures Expandable Polystyrene products used in the construction and packaging industries.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role aims to minimize accidents, health issues, and environmental impacts while promoting a culture of safety and sustainability within the organization.

Responsibilities:

Program Development: Lead, develop, implement and maintain EHSS programs, training, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a safe working environment.

Risk Assessment: Manage and conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.

Training and Education:

• Manage and deliver training programs (classroom and CBT modules) to educate employees on EHS standards, practices, and emergency procedures.
• Manage, coordinate, and update all contractor, vendor, and visitor training.
• Site Industry Safe Systems Administrator

Incident Investigation: Lead and manage investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.

Sustainability Initiatives: Lead, promote, and manage sustainability initiatives to reduce the organization’s environmental footprint.

Emergency Response: Audit and maintain emergency response plans and conduct regular drills to ensure preparedness.

Continuous Improvement: Monitor EHSS performance metrics and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance safety and environmental performance and improve site sustainability.

Regulatory Compliance:

• Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements (OSHA, USEPA, OEPA,). Specific and direct experience with OSHA 1910 PSM.
• Manage and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations by maintaining accurate records and submitting required reports.
• Program Manager for the site Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), Hazardous Waste, Air, Wastewater, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Emergency Response Program (ERP) programs.
• Responsible for all internal and external regulatory reporting.
• Lead the ISO/RC 14001 Management System including the Internal Audit and Management Review processes.

Industrial Hygiene:

• Develop and maintain a workplace exposure assessment.
• Industrial Hygiene Monitoring (Chemical exposure; personal sampling, area samples; noise mapping, etc.)

Develop and manage EHSS budget in conjunction with Site Leader oversight.

Site Industry Safe Systems Administrator

Lead, and manage internal and external reporting, audits and initiatives.

Community Outreach: Maintain good working relationships with community emergency services, and regulatory officials.

Qualifications:

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related environmental, health, or safety field. Advanced degree preferred.

Required Years Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHSS roles, with a proven track record of managing EHSS programs.

Preferred Professional Certification(s): Preferred Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety & Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Environmental Specialist (CES), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements (OSHA, USEPA, OEPA) including all site permitting requirements. Specific and direct experience with OSHA 1910 PSM.

Strong knowledge of EHSS regulations, excellent communication and training skills, ability to conduct thorough investigations, and proficiency in EHS management software.
