Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician

Environmental Health and Safety Technician

Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Technician reports to the Safety Manager and will exercise independent judgment in performing regulatory compliance functions, including OSHA, NFPA, and other health and safety programs. The role involves EHS surveillance at the Pacific Cast Technologies and Selmet facilities in Albany, OR, and participation in preventive and corrective actions to protect employees and the environment. Additional duties include assisting the Environmental Manager with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Stormwater, Air, and other environmental compliance programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety functions adhering to all safety requirements and promote safety as an EHS representative.
  • Assist in coordinating CPR/First-Aid AED teams, spill teams, and confined space teams.
  • Coordinate training events and emergency scenarios.
  • Administer safety training to new hires and for safety programs.
  • Assist in organizing certification documents, training, and medical records.
  • Track and report injury and incident metrics.
  • Participate in incident investigations and help develop corrective actions.
  • Support plant management with safety resources and materials.
  • Develop and implement process control techniques to enhance EHS program management.
  • Create standard operating procedures related to life safety programs.
  • Provide environmental, health, and safety training to employees.
  • Assist in preparing reports for regulatory agencies.
  • Report process deviations and assist in diagnosing safety, process, or quality issues.
  • Support operating departments with training on safety programs, mechanical equipment, and crane inspections.
  • Participate in safety improvement projects and initiate work orders for tools and materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.

Skills in:

  • Work prioritization, organization, and scheduling.
  • Effective communication across all levels.
  • Documenting procedures, hazard assessments, and evaluating tasks.

Ability to:

  • Work safely in hazardous environments and assess risks.
  • Identify and respond to regulatory compliance situations.
  • Recognize occupational hazards and mitigate them.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Apply critical thinking and corrective actions.
  • Represent the EHS departments professionally.
  • Manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Ensure compliance with technical information and lead safety improvements.

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

  • Two years' experience in an administrative or EHS role with attention to detail and organization, using MS Office products.
  • Or an Associate's of Science Degree in any field.
