Job description

Environmental Graphic Designer

Running Springs, CA, US

Salary Range: $27.00 To $32.00 Hourly

Environmental Graphic Designer

Pali Mountain | Running Springs, CA

Full-Time | Hourly | On-Site

Schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings/weekends for special projects and installs

Reports to: Creative Director, Brand & Experience

Pay: $27–$32/hour

The Role

Pali Mountain is building a new creative department focused on shaping how our brands come to life across the physical guest experience.

We’re looking for an Environmental Graphic Designer to help create the visual systems, graphics, signage, and branded environments that define our campuses. The work ranges from wayfinding, murals, and building-scale graphics to themed environments, event installations, branded activations, and entirely new guest experiences.

This is a highly visual and technically minded design role. You’ll work closely with the Creative Director to develop concepts into thoughtful, production-ready environmental graphics, collaborating with production, fabrication, vendors, and operations to see those ideas through to completion. For a designer who loves seeing their work move beyond the screen and become part of a real place, this role offers an unusually broad creative canvas.

What You'll Do

  • Design signage, wayfinding, murals, event graphics, and other environmental brand assets from concept to production-ready files
  • Design with the physical space in mind: scale, sightlines, materials, and how it will actually be built and installed
  • Manage the large-format printing process end-to-end: file prep, vendor coordination, proofing, and production
  • Use SketchUp or similar software to map out and plan large installs before they go into production
  • Conduct on-site walkthroughs to take measurements and assess spaces before designing
  • Maintain brand consistency across signage, environmental graphics, and activation materials across all five Pali brands
  • Partner with the Creative Production Coordinator and Fabrication Specialist to keep projects moving from design to install

Who We're Looking For

  • Has a sharp, developed aesthetic eye, with strong instincts for typography, composition, color, and visual storytelling
  • Thinks spatially: understands how a design will read at scale, from a distance, and within real architecture
  • Understands how a design gets produced and installed, not just how it looks on screen
  • Comfortable taking creative direction and shaping it into a finished, production-ready design
  • A collaborative working style and comfort partnering with other designers, production teams, fabricators, vendors, and operational departments

Experience & Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in graphic design, environmental/signage design, or brand production
  • Strong portfolio required, showing real environmental and large-format work, not just digital or print collateral
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Experience with SketchUp or comparable software for spatial and install planning
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental and large-format design, including scale, spatial context, production requirements, and installation considerations
  • Hands‑on experience with the large‑format printing process: file prep, vendor coordination, production, and output

A college degree is not required. Portfolio quality, technical ability, design judgment, and relevant professional experience are what matter most. Because this role is focused on design for physical environments, portfolios demonstrating environmental graphics, signage, large‑format design, wayfinding, branded spaces, experiential work, or similar applications will be especially competitive.

How This Role Fits

This role is part of a growing multidisciplinary creative department built to take ideas from concept through physical execution. The team works collaboratively throughout the process, with each role contributing its own area of expertise.

  • The Creative Director, Brand & Experience leads the overarching creative vision, brand direction, and guest experience design planning.
  • The Environmental Graphic Designer develops the visual and technical design systems that bring those concepts into physical spaces.
  • The Creative Production Coordinator supports sourcing, schedules, purchasing, vendors, and production logistics.
  • The Fabrication Specialist helps turn those designs into finished environments through fabrication, installation, maintenance, and reuse.

This is a fully on‑site position based at our mountain campus in Running Springs, California. The role combines studio-based design work with regular time throughout the property for site walks, measurements, material reviews, production planning, and installation coordination. Projects span indoor and outdoor environments across active camp, education, retreat, event, and operational spaces. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for major installations, events, or project launches. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.

Why Pali

Few graphic design roles offer the opportunity to work at this scale or across this much variety. One project may involve a permanent campus wayfinding system. The next may be a building‑scale graphic, immersive themed environment, event installation, mural, branded gathering space, or entirely new guest experience. Your work will be designed, produced, installed, and experienced by real people in real spaces.

You’ll also be joining a creative department at an exciting stage of growth. There is an opportunity not only to contribute great work, but to help establish the design standards, systems, processes, materials, and visual language that will shape Pali’s physical environments for years to come. If you’re a designer who enjoys both creative craft and technical execution and wants to help build something from the ground up, this is a chance to have a meaningful hand in what comes next.
