Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Geoscientist to apply scientific expertise to environmental decisions, focusing on mining operations and their effects on water, land, and communities.

You will interpret geologic and hydrologic data, support regulatory decisions, and contribute to permit reviews and site investigations, with telework options up to three days weekly.

Qualifications

• One year as a Geoscience Trainee or equivalent professional title.
• One year of professional geology experience with a geology-related degree and 30 geologic credits.
• Active Geologist-in-Training certificate with one year of geologic work.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training with 30 geologic credits.

Responsibilities

• Review mining permit applications and evaluate geologic and hydrologic data
• Interpret water quality, flow data and environmental conditions to assess impacts
• Coordinate technical reviews with agencies and staff
• Prepare technical deficiency letters, findings and recommendations
• Inspect mine sites to collect data and identify pollution risks
• Support investigations such as water loss studies and closure reviews

Education

One year as Geoscience Trainee or equivalent professional title

One year of professional geology experience with a geology-related degree including 30 geologic credits

Active Geologist-in-Training certificate with one year of geologic work

Equivalent combination of experience and training with 30 geologic credits
