Job summary

GHD's Des Moines, IA office seeks a mid-level Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Hydrogeologist to join the Contaminated Assessment and Remediation (CAR) group, blending field and office work with project management responsibilities.

The role involves groundwater characterization, regulatory reporting, client interfacing, data interpretation, and contributing to safety culture across diverse projects in Iowa and Nebraska.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years experience in field, data evaluation and interpretation and technical report writing.
• Professional designation/license or progress toward such designation (e.g., EIT) a plus.
• Experience with solid waste or coal combustion residual (CCR) management a plus.
• Experience preparing regulatory reports.
• Working knowledge of site characterization, hydrogeologic analysis, and remediation of groundwater contaminants.
• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and project management services to our existing and future clients on a variety of projects.
• Prepare technical correspondence, project proposals, technical reports, work plans, and project specifications including cost estimates and budgets.
• Data compilation, reduction, interpretation, evaluation/comparison to environmental regulatory standards.
• Interact with internal and external clients, contractors and service providers.
• Conduct or direct environmental sampling and monitoring for various media and contaminants of concern by following established procedures.
• Participate in a proactive safety culture of continuous improvement.
• Client engagement and stewardship.
• Complex problem solving as it relates to environmental characterization.
• Balancing the triangle of scope, schedule, and budget to produce the best results possible for our clients.
• Develop and maintain diverse professional networks spanning the globe and multitudes of disciplines.
• Engage in opportunities in a wide range of environmental and geographical settings.
