Job summary

Republic Services seeks an Environmental Field Chemist I to work indoors and outdoors at client sites, ensuring safety, proper waste packaging per regulations, and updated documentation. You will assist with hazardous, non-hazardous and universal waste removal services, supporting the team across multiple sites.

The role requires a chemistry or environmental science background, knowledge of regulations, and a readiness to travel to customer locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of Federal and State Environmental and Transportation regulations.
• DOT and RCRA experience preferred.
• Ability to perform proper waste sampling; create accurate waste characterizations and profiles; address difficult situations; utilize computer technology for communication, data gathering and reporting; problem solve.
• Applies basic communication skills to read, analyze, and interpret general business documentation, procedures, regulations; respond to inquiries.
• Willingness to travel to customer locations.
• Currently hold a 40-hour HAZWOPER (with 8-hour refresher) or ability to pass course upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Collect, characterize & package customer waste for final disposal.
• Assist in safely transporting customer waste per Federal regulations.
• Assist with customer paperwork including Packing Lists, Waste Labels & Shipping Documents.
• Participate in onsite support at customer locations (inspections, waste collection, chemical dispensing, inventory management, housekeeping & outbound waste shipments).
• Collaborate to identify suspected contents via Field Screens.
