Job summary

The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality seeks an Environmental Engineer to support the UST/L.U.S.T. program within the Waste Management Division.

You will review industries handling refined hydrocarbons, analyze data, conduct onsite inspections, and prepare remediation plans and technical reports. Based in Bismarck with periodic travel within the state (1–2 nights per month), you will enforce regulations, respond to inquiries, and provide training and oversight.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; DEQ will not provide sponsorship.
• Environmental Engineer II requires a bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited program in an engineering field and one year of related experience. A master's degree may substitute for one year of work experience.
• Environmental Engineer I requires a bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited program in an engineering field.

Responsibilities

• Review a wide variety of industries/activities that handle and store refined hydrocarbon products.
• Analyze data and conduct onsite inspections to support compliance.
• Prepare, track, and review site remediation plans and technical reports.
• Provide technical oversight and training and enforce applicable rules.
• Respond to inquiries from the public and stakeholders about refined petroleum issues.
