Job summary

South Dakota Department of Agriculture & Natural Resources - Office of Water is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support the NPDES program. The role involves working with industries and municipalities to solve technical problems, ensure regulatory compliance, and protect surface water resources.

The position includes in-state travel for inspections and partner coordination, with occasional out-of-state travel for training or conferences.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited degree in environmental-related field.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in environmental, chemical, civil, geological or related engineering field.
• License: PE encouraged; EIT preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support Surface Water Discharge (NPDES) program with industries and municipalities.
• Perform inspections of facilities and coordinate with partners.
• Model water quality and pollutant loads; analyze data and prepare reports.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and interpret permit conditions.
