Job summary

State of West Virginia is seeking an Engineer Trainee in the Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation in Fairmont. You will learn to provide professional engineering services and support the selection of qualified design firms to meet project schedules.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Successful completion of FE exam or current Engineer Intern certification.
Probationary appointment possible pending verification.

Responsibilities

Monitor design development for feasibility, economics, standards, and reclamation objectives.
Check technical correctness and quality control of designs.
Perform site investigations to evaluate geotechnical conditions.
Define project extent and design objectives.
Determine scope of work for reclamation measures.
Conduct field and office meetings and conferences.
Provide technical guidance on design methods and contract procedures.
Coordinate drilling, mapping, surveying, and water monitoring activities.
Compute design features using hydrologic, hydraulic, earthwork, and geotechnical data.
Maintain detailed workflow reports and design-change records.
Perform other duties as required.
