Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America is seeking an Environmental Engineer in the United States (Mooresville, NC area) for a full-time role focused on safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental programs across mill operations.

The position requires a related engineering degree and 0-4 years' experience, with responsibilities including permits, audits, reporting, and continuous improvement. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, environmental, civil engineering or related field.
• 0-4 years of experience in process engineering or environmental engineering.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and have a valid driver's license.
• Experience using AutoCAD, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Project.
• Knowledge of pulp & paper industry and wastewater treatment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work safely and support mill safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory expectations across assigned environmental programs.
• Maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permits, reporting requirements, and corporate standards.
• Manage environmental programs, procedures, records, audits, inspections, and agency reporting for areas such as air, wastewater treatment, land application, and chemical management.
• Evaluate mill systems, process changes, capital projects, and new equipment installations to ensure environmental requirements are addressed and compliance risks are mitigated.
• Identify environmental issues, develop corrective actions, troubleshoot problems, and follow through with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Support environmental training, compliance procedures, project planning, and continuous improvement efforts that reduce risk, improve performance, and support mill objectives.
• Additional duties as assigned by management.
