Environmental Department Manager - Tampa, FL

Are you passionate about the environment? Terracon is experiencing significant growth and is seeking a dynamic environmental department leader for our Tampa, FL office. We are looking for an accomplished Environmental Professional to lead and grow our environmental business line in Tampa, Florida. The team includes three service lines: Site Assessment/Remediation, Ecology, and Cultural Resources, working on projects such as wetland permitting/delineation, threatened & endangered species surveys, cultural resource studies, industrial hygiene, environmental site assessment, remediation, redevelopment, and site renovation for various clients including city and county agencies, school districts, property developers, law firms, financial institutions, and A/E/C firms.

This career-level position requires managing a department of 40 employees with annual revenues exceeding $4 million. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, coordinating site testing, developing testing plans, and providing design recommendations for projects of varying complexity. The ideal candidate will possess strong operational management skills, the ability to evaluate and mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Leadership through a growth plan, staff training, and workload management are essential. A safety-first mindset is mandatory.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct client development activities and expand our environmental services in Tampa.
2. Provide excellent customer service.
3. Support multiple service lines including geotechnical, construction, and facilities.
4. Participate in business development pursuits as a team member.
5. Understand and apply federal, state, and local regulations.
6. Supervise field staff in sampling, testing, data collection, and documentation.
7. Make recommendations based on technical data for project designs.
8. Develop written proposals for small and large projects.
9. Evaluate and synthesize complex laboratory and field data into reports.
10. Engage as an interdisciplinary team member in project meetings and client communications.
11. Perform site visits, observations, and detailed data collection.
12. Mentor and supervise staff environmental scientists and technicians.
13. Demonstrate leadership in safety and follow safety standards for incident-free operations.
14. Lead pre-task planning and project coordination.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field, with 10 years of related experience; or, a minimum of 14 years' related experience in lieu of a degree.
• Team-oriented, motivated, and organized.
• Previous supervisory and managerial experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.
• Flexible work schedule to meet project deadlines.
• Strong writing skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
