Environmental Department Manager - Tampa, FL

Job Description

Are you passionate about the environment? At Terracon, we are experiencing significant growth, and we are searching for a dynamic environmental department leader for our Tampa, FL Office! We are looking for an accomplished Environmental Professional to lead and grow our environmental business line in Tampa, Florida. The team includes three service lines: Site Assessment/Remediation, Ecology, and Cultural Resources, working on projects such as wetland permitting, threatened & endangered species surveys, cultural resource studies, industrial hygiene, environmental site assessment, remediation, redevelopment, and site renovation for various clients including city and county agencies, school districts, developers, law firms, financial institutions, and A/E/C firms.

This position is for a career-level environmental management professional responsible for overseeing a department of 40 employees with annual revenues over $4 million. The candidate will plan, schedule, coordinate site testing, develop testing plans, and make design recommendations on projects of varying size and complexity. Strong operational management and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to assess and mitigate risks to ensure compliance with regulations. The successful candidate will lead the department through a growth plan, promote training, and manage staff workload, with a paramount focus on safety.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Develop and expand client relationships in environmental services within Tampa, FL.
2. Provide excellent customer service.
3. Support multiple service lines including geotechnical, construction, and facilities.
4. Participate in business development pursuits.
5. Understand and implement federal, state, and local regulations.
6. Guide technical project execution, including sampling, testing, and data collection.
7. Make recommendations based on technical data.
8. Develop proposals for clients for small and large projects.
9. Evaluate and synthesize laboratory and field data into reports.
10. Participate in meetings and communicate with clients on projects.
11. Conduct site visits and field observations.
12. Mentor and supervise staff scientists and technicians.
13. Lead safety initiatives to ensure incident and injury-free operations.
14. Lead pre-task planning and project management activities.

Minimum Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field, with 10 years of relevant experience; or, in lieu of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.
2. Team-oriented, motivated, and organized.
3. Previous supervisory and managerial experience preferred.
4. Valid driver’s license with acceptable record.
5. Flexible work schedule to meet project deadlines.
6. Strong writing skills.
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
