Job summary

BUNNELL LAMMONS ENGINEERING seeks a Department Manager to lead the Environmental Due Diligence and Remediation Services in the Charlotte area. This senior role oversees technical delivery, staff development, project execution, and client service, partnering with the Charlotte Branch Manager to grow the practice.

The candidate will balance technical excellence with financial performance, staff leadership, and strategic growth, with opportunity for ownership within BLE’s employee-owned firm.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related technical discipline required; advanced degree or specialized environmental training preferred.
  • Professional registration as a PE or PG in North Carolina is strongly preferred; other environmental certifications encouraged.
  • Typically 8+ years of progressive experience in environmental consulting, including project management and increasing responsibility for technical delivery and staff leadership.
  • Experience reviewing environmental due diligence, site investigation, remediation and regulatory-closure projects, including Phase I ESAs and Phase II investigations.
  • Experience planning soil and groundwater investigations, interpreting environmental data, building conceptual site models, and developing work plans; familiarity with ASTM standards, AAI requirements, and relevant programs.
  • Familiarity with contaminants, remediation technologies, and programs such as Brownfields, UST/LUST, RCRA, or CERCLA; existing relationships in Charlotte area are beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain corporate standards, ethics, and regulatory compliance within the department.
  • Establish departmental priorities and workflows to promote quality, accountability, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Oversee due diligence, site investigation, remediation, and regulatory-closure projects from scoping through closure with staffing, schedule, budget, and client communication.
  • Plan and coordinate project activities including regulatory research, site reconnaissance, drilling, sampling, lab analyses, and subcontractors.
  • Guide data interpretation, model development, data gaps, remedial evaluation, and closure strategies.
  • Lead QA/QC, review proposals, work plans, reports, submittals; provide technical guidance.
  • Assess staffing needs; recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing team; manage budgets, forecasts, utilization, and profitability.
  • Develop trusted client relationships and support growth strategies with BLE leadership.
  • Lead the technical aspects of pursuits, proposals, and major projects; expand client relationships and service offerings.
  • Develop long-term strategy, annual plans, and performance objectives; monitor market trends and opportunities.
  • Ensure successful delivery of projects in line with BLE standards and client expectations.
