Job summary

The City of Richmond (CA) is seeking an organized Environmental Compliance Inspector to join the Public Works Department's Water Resource Recovery Division. The role focuses on inspections, sampling, and enforcing wastewater and stormwater regulations to protect the community and environment.

The ideal candidate will have a science background, 1–3 years of related experience, and the ability to work independently as well as with city staff, regulated businesses, and agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of related experience.
• Equivalency acceptable to meet required skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect sanitary and stormwater discharges at varied sources.
• Perform physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological tests on samples.
• Investigate and trace sources of illegal discharges.
• Communicate violations and plan enforcement actions.
• Maintain inspection records and prepare reports.
• Enforce applicable regulations and assist with permits.
