As an Environmental Assistant at Superior Tire & Rubber Corp., you will be supporting and maintaining a safe work environment by assisting with the implementation and monitoring of environmental programs and policies. You will be responsible for ensuring that our facilities are environmentally safe. You will need to be highly detail and task oriented, as well as have great organizational and documentation skills. It is also important that this position maintains a positive demeanor to help the EHS department build strong relationships with all other departments of this Company.
Essential Job Functions:
Regulatory Compliance:
Inspections and Audits:
- Participate in EHS inspections and audits of the workplace to identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance with safety & environmental standards as directed. Report findings to the EHS Department.
- Identify and report potential hazards, safety violations, and areas for improvement.
- Reports unsafe and/or potentially dangerous situations to the EHS Department as appropriate.
Emergency Response:
- Has knowledge of emergency response plans for environmental incidents.
- Participate in spill training and exercises to test emergency preparedness.
- Manage cardboard recycling, wood or plastic pallets, IBC totes, and metal drums.
- Collect trash from receptacles for disposal.
Hazardous Materials Management:
- Has knowledge of EPA standards to assist in the safe handling, storage, and disposal of residual, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste streams as trained and directed.
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS) knowledge and understanding.
- Recycle empty propane bottles & aerosol cans throughout the facility.
- Condense/transfer waste oil & coolant from storage containers.
- Has knowledge of proper waste labeling.
- Respond to spills

- Limited travel in the Warren area
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a Manufacturing environment.
- The individual will work around chemicals, metal, high heat and machinery.

Required Education and Experience:
- Required to understand and communicate in English.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in environmental-related roles is desired.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations is desired.
- Keep proper record of work activities and reports progress to the supervisor
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
