Job summary

City of Turlock is seeking an entry-level Utilities Maintenance Worker I to join our team. Under supervision, you will perform routine to semiskilled work across sewer, storm, and water distribution systems, including installation, repair, and cleaning of facilities.

The role requires hand‑on troubleshooting, safety compliance, and the ability to learn standard procedures while working under guidance. A valid California driver license and upcoming certifications are required within specified

Qualifications

One year of construction or maintenance experience with pumps, valves, basic plumbing functions, and operating heavy equipment.
High School diploma or GED certificate.
Possession of Water Distribution Grade I Certification and Collections System Maintenance Grade I Certification within 18 months from date of hire.
Work Zone Safety Certification within 24 months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License at the time of appointment; ability to obtain Class B within nine months.

Responsibilities

Install, remove, clean, and repair sewer, storm, water lines and related facilities.
Cut, lay, install, and repair water mains, storm lines, sewer lines, valves, and hydrants.
Isolate water main sections; perform flushing and disinfect water mains as required.
Operate large construction equipment and conduct safety inspections of tools and vehicles.
Respond to public inquiries and emergencies; maintain records and reports of work performed.
