Job summary

Irby Construction Company, a Quanta Services subsidiary, is seeking an entry‑level Project Engineer (Transmission) to support project managers and field leadership. You will assist in planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of high‑voltage transmission projects across the West Region, with travel and growth opportunities.

Role emphasizes learning, hands‑on field exposure, and collaboration between office and field teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or related field
• Entry-level role; no prior utility construction experience required
• Strong interest in electric utility construction and project management
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; scheduling software a plus
• Ability to read construction drawings and technical docs
• Strong organizational skills with multiple deadlines
• Effective written and verbal communication; team player
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Managers, Superintendents, and foremen with daily coordination of transmission projects
• Support pre-construction activities: drawings, specs, bid docs, schedules, scope
• Help prepare and maintain project schedules, look-ahead plans, milestones
• Prepare RFIs, submittals, change requests, minutes, logs
• Support cost tracking, budget updates, forecasting, and expense reconciliation
• Assist with materials tracking and procurement coordination
• Coordinate with engineering, operations, subcontractors, vendors, clients
• Attend pre-construction, progress, safety, and closeout meetings; take notes
• Conduct site visits to verify conditions and progress
• Assist with project reporting on safety, quality, production, schedule, cost
• Document field changes, as-builts, quantities, turnover for billing
• Identify risks and communicate with leadership for resolution
• Support closeout activities and lessons learned
