Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Telecommunications Mechanic I to support the Base Telecommunications System (BTS) at Goodfellow Air Force Base. The role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of voice, data, fiber optic, and copper systems in a mission-critical environment.

This entry-level position offers hands-on experience with senior technicians, opportunities to gain DoD telecommunications know-how, and the chance to contribute to vital Air Force communications infrastructure.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Technical training in telecommunications, electronics, electrical technology, networking preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for formal education.
One or more years of telecommunications/related field experience.
Experience with copper and/or fiber cabling preferred.
Military telecom experience and DoD contract exposure are pluses.
Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair telecom equipment and infrastructure under senior technicians.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on telecom systems.
Install, terminate, test, and label copper and fiber optic cabling.
Read and interpret manuals, wiring diagrams, and test results.
Maintain maintenance records and work orders.
Respond to routine service requests and assist with outage restoration.
Communicate with customers, coworkers, and Government personnel.
Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Follow safety, security, and quality standards.
Lift up to 50 pounds; work in varied weather; may require on-call duties.
