Bowhead seeks a Telecommunications Mechanic II to support BTS O&M at Goodfellow AFB. You will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and document voice, data, fiber, and copper telecom infrastructure for critical Air Force systems.

Qualifications

  • Technical telecom training preferred.
  • Equivalent mix of education and telecom experience considered.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair telecom systems and equipment.

  • Install, terminate, splice, test, and certify cabling.

Overview

SCA Telecomunication Mechanic II (2026-25867)

Bowhead seeks a Telecommunications Mechanic II to support the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the Base Telecommunications System (BTS) at Goodfellow Air Force Base. The selected candidate will install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and document voice, data, fiber optic, and copper telecommunications infrastructure supporting critical Air Force communications systems. This position requires a motivated technician capable of working independently and as part of a team while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.

Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair telecommunications systems and associated equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs) on telecommunications equipment in accordance with contract requirements and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Diagnose and repair copper and fiber optic cable systems, telecommunications circuits, and associated hardware.
  • Install, terminate, splice, test, and certify copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Support Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), analog, and digital telephone systems.
  • Perform adds, moves, changes, and removals of telecommunications equipment and services.
  • Respond to emergency, priority, and routine service outages in accordance with contractual response requirements.
  • Perform cable locating, staking, and marking activities.
  • Assist with work order execution, technical solutions, and system upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and work order documentation.
  • Update telecommunications databases, drawings, and infrastructure records as required.
  • Coordinate with Government personnel, contractors, and customers to complete assigned work.
  • Follow all applicable safety, environmental, security, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call support and emergency response when required.

Qualifications
  • Education
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Technical training in telecommunications, electronics, networking, or a related field preferred.
    • Equivalent combination of education, military experience, vocational training, and telecommunications experience will be considered.
  • Years of experience
    • Three (3) or more years of experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing telecommunications systems.
    • Experience with copper and fiber optic cabling, Inside Plant (ISP), and/or Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure.
    • Experience installing, terminating, splicing, and testing telecommunications cabling.
    • Experience supporting Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), analog, or digital telephone systems.
    • Experience interpreting technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and telecommunications documentation.
    • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Federal telecommunications systems is preferred.
  • Required skills or certifications
    • Knowledge of telecommunications installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting principles.
    • Experience with copper and fiber optic cabling, including installation, termination, testing, and repair.
    • Working knowledge of Inside Plant (ISP) and Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure.
    • Ability to install, maintain, and troubleshoot analog, digital, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone systems.
    • Experience using telecommunications test equipment (e.g., cable analyzers, OTDRs, multimeters, tone generators, cable locators).
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and telecommunications records.
    • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Valid driver's license.
    • Security+ Certification
  • Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgement with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
