Bon Secours is seeking a Surgical Assistant t- Piedmont Orthopaedic to join the team. The role supports surgical procedures under provider supervision, functioning as an entry-level practitioner focused on learning and growing within the organization.

The position requires a Surgical Assistant Program completion and state licensing as applicable, with BLS and CSA certification preferred or required by governing bodies. A strong emphasis on patient care and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• Completion of a Surgical Assistant Program (required).
• BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must obtain prior to direct patient care).
• Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) by NBSTSA/NSAA/NCCSA (required).
• If employed in Virginia, must be registered with the Virginia Board of Medicine (required).

Responsibilities

• Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving; functions as first or second assistant on cases; supports sterile technique.
• Protects patient information and participates in Universal Protocol procedures.
• Communicates with the circulating nurse about instrument status and sterility.
• Assists with OR case preparation and sterile field setup.
• Assists with patient positioning, prep, and draping; supports wound care and closure under supervision.
