Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Orlando, FL is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer to support licensed professionals in designing high-voltage substations (13kV–765kV) and delivering project deliverables through design and construction phases.

You will assist with design packages, calculations, sketches, cost estimates, field inspections and data research, while applying IEEE/NESC standards and client requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (or related ABET-accredited field) and FE exam required.
• Internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• EIT Certification preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills (MS Office).
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of substation projects from conceptual phase to completion.
• Prepare substation design packages (layout, protective relaying, grounding, etc.).
• Develop substation calculations (insulation, voltage drop, cable sizing, etc.).
• Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs and other deliverables.
• Assists with field inspections for substations.
• Research and compile project data for managers.
• Assist with client presentations and status reports.
• Identify and help resolve project issues; adhere to schedule and QA/QC guidelines.
