Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Orlando, FL is seeking an Assistant Substation Engineer to support licensed professionals in delivering design packages for high-voltage substations from concept through construction. You will assist with calculations, sketches, and documentation while learning project scope and client expectations.

This role emphasizes field inspections, data compilation, and presentations to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required.
ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
Internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist in the design of substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
Prepare and develop substation design packages including physical arrangement, protective relaying and control, and electrical studies.
Develop substation calculations (insulation, AC/D C systems, voltage drop, cable sizing, conduit fill).
Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, equipment specifications, BOM, and other deliverables.
Apply IEEE, NESC, and other standards.
Support field inspections for substation facilities.
Research and compile project-related data for PMs.
Assist with client presentations, reports, and visualizations.
Identify and resolve project issues, ensuring schedule adherence.
Collaborate with project team to deliver QA/QC compliant services.
