Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Chicago is seeking a recent Master’s graduate in Civil or Structural Engineering for an entry-level structural engineer role. You will assist with design, evaluation and repairs for existing buildings, performing a broad range of analysis and design tasks in multiple materials.

As you work with senior staff, you will contribute to investigations, drawings, specs, and construction administration while developing technical and professional skills.

Qualifications

  • MS in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
  • Excellent written, oral, and verbal communication skills.
  • FE/EIT certification preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, SAFE (software) preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable MVR.
  • Enthusiasm, teachability and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with new design, evaluation, investigation and repairs for existing buildings.
  • Perform structural analysis and design tasks in steel, concrete, masonry and wood.
  • Aid on-site investigations to document conditions and root causes.
  • Assist during construction administration and prepare drawings and specs.
