Job summary

Electric Power Systems is seeking a Relay Technician I to support the installation, testing, and maintenance of protective relay and control systems in substations and industrial environments. You will learn relay protection theory and practical testing under supervision.

This entry-level role emphasizes safety, hands-on learning, and collaboration with senior technicians and engineers, with opportunities for career development and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing, or repairing protective relays in transmission, generation or distribution level substations.
  • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for overtime/out-of-town assignments.
  • Knowledge of relay protection theory and testing fundamentals.

Responsibilities

  • Implement safety policies and follow PPE procedures in energized environments.
  • Assist with installation, wiring, and commissioning of protection and control systems on relay panels, transformers, and circuit breakers.
  • Perform entry-level testing under supervision from Senior Relay Technicians and Engineers.
  • Develop basic relay test plans and document testing results.
  • Read schematics/drawings and support troubleshooting of relay and control systems.
  • Collaborate with Relay Technicians II/III and engineers to build skills and knowledge.
