Job summary

Techtronic Industries Co. is seeking an entry-level Prototype Machinist to learn and develop machining skills while assisting in fabricating prototype components, fixtures, gauges, and tooling.

You will gain hands-on experience operating manual and CNC machines and interpreting engineering drawings under guidance from experienced machinists. The role covers basic machining operations, shop safety, and collaboration with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to support prototype

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a technical program in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous coursework, vocational training, internships, co-op experience, or hands-on machining experience is a plus but not required.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in machining, manufacturing, and prototype development.
  • Ability to learn machining fundamentals, blueprint reading, measurement techniques, and shop practices.
  • Strong mathematical skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to follow instructions and accept coaching from experienced team members.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Desire to learn new skills and grow within the machining profession.
  • Ability to work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to following all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and follow all company safety policies, procedures, and shop practices.
  • Assist in the setup and operation of manual and CNC machine tools under supervision.
  • Support the fabrication of prototype parts, fixtures, gauges, tooling, and related components from drawings, sketches, CAD models, and verbal instructions.
  • Perform basic machining tasks including drilling, milling, turning, sawing, tapping, and other operations as assigned.
  • Complete secondary operations such as deburring, sanding, polishing, assembly, and part finishing.
  • Learn to use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and upkeep of prototype shop equipment.
  • Support Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams on prototype and development projects.
  • Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and basic GD&T requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in training and skill development activities to increase machining knowledge and technical capabilities.
  • Perform other duties assigned to support prototype shop objectives.
