Job summary

Hourigan Construction in Richmond, VA seeks a motivated Project Engineer entry-level to learn and grow across construction management tracks including field, project, preconstruction, VDC coordination, and safety.

This role supports the project team with permit processes, document control, and quality management while gaining exposure to scheduling, budgeting, and procurement. A strong collaborative mindset and willingness to learn are essential.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering or related field or 0-3 years of construction experience.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Willing to work non-traditional hours including early mornings/evenings.
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions possible.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Follow and assist with development of procedures for controlling contract drawings.
• Assist Project Administrator with setup of the job management system.
• Assist the project team with the building permit process.
• Assist the Superintendent in the site utilization plan development.
• Assist with review and coordination of Loss Prevention, Sustainability Action Plan and Quality Control Program.
• Review and process submittal data and shop drawings to keep schedules on track.
• Maintain administrative logs (RFI, RFP, COR, Submittal, Document Control).
• Serve as onsite quality manager for assigned trades to verify submittal requirements.
• Attend project meetings and assist with progress reports/minutes.
• Distribute proposal change documents and assist with pricing for internal review.
• Update clarifications/changes on as-built drawings with project team.
• Learn preconstruction processes including quantity take-offs and budget development.
• Assist with constructability reviews, project setup and subcontractor communication.
• Participate in Hourigan SHMS and uphold safe work practices.
