Job summary

Hourigan Construction in Charlottesville, VA is seeking an entry-level Project Engineer to learn the various construction management tracks, including field management, project management, preconstruction services, and more. This role offers hands-on exposure and collaboration across the project team.

You will assist with procedures for drawings, permits, and site plans while supporting safety and quality control efforts.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be willing to work non-traditional hours, including early mornings and evenings.
• Work may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Follow and assist with development of procedures for controlling contract drawings.
• Assist Project Administrator with setup of the job management system.
• Assist the project team with the building permit process.
• Assist the Superintendent in developing the site utilization plan.
• Assist with review and coordination of the Loss Prevention, Sustainability Action Plan and Quality Control Program.
• Review and process submittal data and shop drawings to expedite schedules and deliveries.
• Maintain administrative logs (RFI, RFP, COR, Submittal, Document Control).
• Serve as onsite quality manager for assigned trades by verifying deliveries meet submittal requirements.
• Attend project meetings and assist the Project Manager with progress reports and minutes.
• Distribute change documents and assist with pricing and internal pricing review.
• Update clarifications/changes on as-built drawings and coordinate with the project team.
• Assist with preconstruction tasks including quantity take-offs, budget development, procurement, and VE worksheets.
• Support constructability reviews, project setup, and subcontractor communication.
• Participate in Hourigan SHMS and uphold safe work practices.
