Description

The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Entry Level Maintenance Mechanic. The primary responsibilities are to maintain a safe and clean dining hall for the students, assist in room setups as needed, and to provide support as needed for Maintenance Mechanics. Hours for this role are Monday thru Friday 7:00am to 4:15pm and occasionally work overtime during evenings and weekendswith an hourly non-exempt rate of $19.00. This role will report directly to the Facilities Administrator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setup tables and chairs in dining hall for students’ lunch.
  • Maintain the dining area clean and safe for patrons.
  • Remove trash and recycling from the dining hall daily and place it in the appropriate waste dumpster.
  • Check the outside grounds daily and remove any debris.
  • Assist in room setups and tear downs as assigned by the Lower School Facilities Administrator or other Maintenance Mechanic.
  • Assist Lower School Facilities Administrator and/or Maintenance Mechanics, as needed.
  • Inform security of any suspicious objects found in the building or outside areas.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all fire codes, building codes and government regulations. Report any issues to the Lower School Facilities Administrator.
  • Adhere to OSHA requirements and in handling of hazardous material.
  • Perform all tasks connected with carpool activity as directed by the Lower School Facilities Administrator.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow directions and learn from other Maintenance Mechanics.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet the hours of operation and to work overtime in evenings and on weekends as necessary.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Lower School Facilities Administrator.
Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Frequent lifting and bending are involved
  • Exposure to extreme cold/heat when performing duties outside
  • Mechanical skills are a plus but not necessary

Position Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to meet the hours of operation and to work overtime in evenings and on weekends as necessary
