Job summary

Duke Energy is hiring a Line Apprentice to learn and support the distribution system operations, including install, maintenance, and repair tasks across multiple operations centers in North Carolina. The role requires readiness for on-call duties and varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to support outages and emergencies.

The position emphasizes safety, adherence to procedures, and learning on-the-job under supervision, with a path toward skilled linework and CDL readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Installs and repairs electrical equipment such as street lighting and load control devices.
• Constructs overhead and underground distribution lines based on engineering specifications.
• Installs equipment such as transformers, capacitors, regulators, meters, and street lights.
• Maintains and repairs equipment and performs preventative maintenance with test equipment.
• Responds to trouble calls when electrical service is interrupted.
• Supports company goals and represents the company professionally.

Lineman's Training School certificate

Technical School Line program certificate

Military experience

Experience in electric utility industry

Climbing power structures experience

Experience near power lines

Disaster/emergency response experience
