Job summary

Duke Energy in the United States is hiring a Line Apprentice to support the operations process and learn the distribution system while gaining hands-on experience with equipment, tools, and materials. This role requires on-call readiness, adherence to safety rules, and the ability to work various shifts, including nights and holidays, to support planned outages or emergencies.

Multiple North Carolina locations available; hourly pay rate is $28.42.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Valid driver's license required.
Lineman training certificate preferred.
Military experience welcomed.
Experience in electric utility industry preferred.
Training or experience climbing structures beneficial.
Experience near power lines or electricity preferred.
Disaster or emergency response experience beneficial.

Responsibilities

Installs and repairs electrical equipment such as street lighting and load control devices.
Constructs overhead and underground distribution lines based on engineering specifications, including setting poles, pulling cable, setting transformers, etc.
Installs equipment such as transformers, capacitors, regulators, load control devices, meters, street lights, safe lights, etc.
Maintains and repairs equipment; performs preventative maintenance using test equipment such as volt and amp meters.
Responds to trouble calls when equipment fails and/or electrical service is interrupted.
Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
