Job summary

dbHMS's Chicago Design Studio seeks an Entry Level Lighting Designer to assist in developing lighting systems for diverse projects. You will work with clients, reps, architects, and MEP engineers to craft lighting plans for interior spaces.

The role supports senior staff, contributing to studies, drawings, and specifications while growing your expertise in lighting design and related software. Hybrid/remote work options are available.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: B.S degree in Architecture, Interior Design or Lighting Design.
• Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills including Excel and PowerPoint.
• Having an understanding and feel for interior design and finishes.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and select lighting from appropriate sources.
• Ability to support aesthetically pleasing designs with technically competent analysis.
• Produce architectural drawings using AutoCAD or Revit.
• Model photometric and energy compliance software relevant to lighting design including AGI32 and COMcheck.
• Create building mock-ups or prototype models.
• Assist senior designers and project managers to provide lighting design services to clients.
• Support design projects with creative thinking, design research, and project documentation.
• Read and understand construction documents, floor plans, specifications and equipment details.
• Attend external meetings to obtain design input and ensure coordination.
• Help review submittals of equipment for compliance with the contract documents.
