Job summary

Journey is seeking an Architectural Lighting Designer for our Broadway Studio in New York. The candidate should have 2–4 years of direct professional experience in architectural lighting and a strong design sensibility to translate concepts into construction documents.

The role involves creating lighting concepts, layouts, simulations, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. This position is based in NYC with hybrid in-person studio hours and requires eligibility to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in lighting design, architecture, interior design, or related field.
• Approximately 2–4 years of direct professional experience in architectural and/or interior/theatrical lighting.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to express ideas thoroughly.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with changing requirements and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop lighting design concepts for architectural projects (commercial, stadium, landscape, hospitality, public space).
• Produce lighting layouts, plans, sections, and details using CAD/Revit.
• Perform lighting calculations and simulations with AGi32, Dialux, or similar.
• Collaborate with architects, interior designers, engineers, and clients to integrate lighting into the built environment.
• Select luminaires, controls, and systems aligned with design intent and budgets.
• Prepare presentations, renderings, and visualizations to communicate design ideas.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and mockups for design compliance.
• Conduct site visits and assist with aiming, focusing, and commissioning of installations.
• Stay current with industry trends, codes, and sustainability practices.
