Job description

A law firm seeks a passionate and driven Entry Level Immigration Attorney to join its growing team in Bakersfield. This opportunity is ideal for a newly admitted attorney or a recent graduate with a strong interest in immigration law. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience, manage client cases, and collaborate with an experienced team of attorneys and legal assistants. Duties:
  • Provide legal counsel on immigration matters, offering clear and strategic solutions
  • Represent clients, both detained and non-detained, in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Manage a caseload of immigration cases, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are informed
  • Conduct client intake interviews with detained individuals at immigration detention centers
  • Prepare and file immigration applications, including family-based petitions and removal defense cases
  • Review and revise immigration application packets to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Engage with law enforcement, community organizations, and other legal offices to stay informed on immigration law updates
  • Meet with potential clients for consultations, assess their legal needs, and develop case strategies
  • Develop strategies for clients and prepare them and any witnesses for court appearances or USCIS interviews
  • Provide in-depth legal analysis to determine the best course of action for each case
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated interest in immigration law through law school clinics, volunteer work, or internships
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar admission (candidates awaiting bar results will be considered)
  • A team player who is willing to collaborate and strategize with colleagues
  • Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish, but not required
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward
  • Experience with case management software is preferred
Education:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
  • Active admission to the State Bar (or eligibility for admission)

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide legal insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy
