Commonwealth of Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways, in Sparta, KY, seeks a Highway Technician Assistant I to perform basic highway maintenance tasks. The position is full-time with overtime eligibility, offering $17.95 hourly pay and a typical 40-hour workweek.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to qualify for employment in this job classification.
• Within 12 months of employment in this job classification, employees must furnish documentation that they hold a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
• Within one year of employment, must complete First Aid and Snow and Ice Training and possess Traffic Control/Flagger and OSHA 10 Certifications or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Operate a small single axle dump truck hauling materials to and from job sites.
• Operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in winter months.
• Operate a tractor-type mowing machine, assist in brush cutting, and use chemical sprayers.
• Learn and assist with basic surveying activities or construction projects.
• Flag for operations requiring traffic control.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance work on equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

By joining our Gallatin County Unit as a Highway Technician Assistant I, you'll have the opportunity to perform basic level work of highway roadway or roadside and construction operations.

Summary of Responsibilities

Working Conditions

Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area, and when necessary, district wide. Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction. Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
