Job summary

Forged Fiber is seeking an entry-level technician to install, repair, and test internet and broadband services for homes and small businesses. No experience required; however, willingness to work outdoors and customer service or related experience are preferred.

Based at 2120 3rd Ave S, St. Paul MN, you will communicate with customers, assist with installation or repair processes, and support network activation and troubleshooting while learning hands-on fiber technologies.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience required; willingness to work outdoors.
  • Customer service or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and work outdoors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-home installation and service work for consumer and small business customers, including ONT, SmartNID, gateways, extenders, Ethernet, copper, and fiber inside wiring.
  • Interact with customers professionally and courteously (on-site and by phone); explain features, usage, applications, and equipment capabilities.
  • Evaluate customer needs and appropriately identify and communicate additional/alternative service opportunities.
  • Conduct Line Station Transfer (LST) tasks such as F2 port changes and splitter port modifications.
  • Install, repair, reconnect, rearrange and hang aerial drops as needed for service delivery and service repair.
  • Place, flag, and bury or dig in buried drops for permanent installations.
  • Place, flag, and bury or dig in temporary buried drops.
  • Repair buried drops by placing new drops or repairing existing ones.
  • Isolate fiber troubles using tools such as OTDR, Opti-meter, or fault finder.
  • Install mechanical connectors using the appropriate installation kit and connectors.
  • Perform fiber fusion splicing, whether existing or new.
  • Place and repair aerial fiber enclosures as part of the service process.
  • Place and repair buried fiber enclosures as needed.
  • Replace connectorized terminals to install, maintain or restore service.
  • Attach or re‑attach cables to poles safely and securely.
  • Place, replace, and rearrange splitters to ensure proper network functionality.
  • Utilize a company assigned electronic devices for work orders, diagnostics, documentation, and communication.
  • Read and interpret customer service orders, technical drawings, maps, blueprints, diagrams, etc.
  • Receive service orders, worksheets, (detailed diagrams describing the nature and location of equipment to be installed or repair) and repair tickets from supervisor or other designated employees and perform specified work.
